Why Alcohol Ruins Sleep (Even When You Think It Helps)
That "nightcap" lie? Debunked. While booze knocks you out, it:
Blocks REM sleep (where real restoration happens)
Spikes cortisol (hello, 3AM anxiety)
Worsens sleep apnea (40% heavier snoring!)
10 Sleep Hacks for Sober Nights
1️⃣ Power Down Hour - Ditch screens 60 mins before bed (blue light = melatonin killer). Try a paperback book instead.
2️⃣ Magnesium Magic - 300mg magnesium glycinate before bed calms nervous system chatter.
3️⃣ Temperature Dive - Hot shower 90 mins before bed triggers body’s natural cooldown sleep signal.
4️⃣ Weighted Blanket Hug - 12% of your body weight = deep-pressure dopamine boost.
5️⃣ "Dull & Dark" Rule - Blackout curtains + boring decor (no work stuff in sight).

6️⃣ 4-7-8 Breathing - Inhale 4 sec → Hold 7 → Exhale 8 (repeat 4x to lower heart rate).
7️⃣ Caffeine Cutoff - No coffee after 2PM (even if you "handle it").
8️⃣ Sleep Sanctuary Scent - Lavender oil on pillow (proven to increase deep sleep by 20%).
9️⃣ "5-Minute Brain Dump" - Scribble tomorrow’s to-dos on paper to quiet mental loops.
🔟 Socks On, Stress Off - Warm feet = 32% faster sleep onset (science says so).
When to Seek Help
If after 3 months you still:
Take >30 mins to fall asleep
Wake up exhausted daily
Experience night terrors
👉 Talk to a sleep specialist (many are sober-savvy!)
