The Bottle or Me
At 13, Kellie Adams took her first drink at a middle school dance—clueless, nervous, and desperate to fit in. That single moment ignited a decades-long spiral of chaos, from teenage recklessness to motherhood marred by blackouts and regret. What started as teenage experimentation became survival mode, with alcohol masking pain until it became the pain.
The turning point came in 2014, at 47 years old, when her teenage daughters discovered her with a bottle of pills in her hand—a moment of drunken despair where death felt like the only escape. But that rock bottom became her foundation. Sobriety didn’t make life easier; it made life real. No more hiding, no more numbing. Just raw, unfiltered existence—laughter that shakes her ribs, tears that flow without shame, and a presence she’d avoided for most of her life.
Today, Kellie’s mission is clear: to prove that sobriety isn’t about deprivation, but about reclaiming the joy alcohol promised but never delivered. Whether through her memoir, Shit I Do Sober, or candid conversations with others in recovery, she’s dismantling the myth that fun requires a drink—one honest story at a time.

On June 9, 2025, Kellie celebrates 11 years sober, a testament to the power of showing up, one day at a time. Her journey reminds us that the bravest thing we can do is face life without anesthesia.
