The Moment He Realized Alcohol Was Holding Him Back
J Timber’s journey with alcohol began at just 12 years old. As a lifelong musician, the party lifestyle—filled with drugs and alcohol—felt like an inseparable part of his career. After every show, the drinks flowed freely, and at one point, he was even paid in alcohol. For years, J believed this was just the way life in the music industry worked.
But by the time he turned 30, J was exhausted. The daily drinking had taken its toll, and he began to question what was holding him back from reaching his full potential. A pivotal moment came when someone he admired in the music industry shared a sobering truth: “I’ve seen your story before, and it doesn’t end well.” Those words struck a chord. J realized he didn’t need alcohol to fuel his music—or his life.

Quitting alcohol wasn’t easy, but it led J to a life he had always envisioned. Sobriety brought him clarity, a deeper connection to his craft, and the love of his life—his now wife. His music career began to flourish in ways he had only dreamed of, free from the haze of addiction.
Today, J Timber is living proof that sobriety can unlock your greatest potential. His story is a reminder that sometimes, the thing holding us back is the very thing we think we can’t live without.

The Partnership for a Drug-Free Community hosted Spring Sobriety Soirée (April 24) to raise funds for free substance misuse programs, featuring live music, auctions, and community support. They’re also participating in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day (April 26) with drive-thru drop-offs in Huntsville to safely dispose of unused medications and combat opioid misuse. The organization provides free same-day assessments, treatment connections, and case management—removing financial barriers to recovery.
San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey is proposing a Recovery First drug policy, prioritizing long-term recovery over harm reduction—a move that has drawn criticism from advocates of needle exchanges and safe-use programs. Dorsey insists the policy won’t eliminate harm reduction but aims to unify the city’s approach under a "North Star" of sobriety. The push comes as overdose deaths rebound to 64 per month amid cheaper, more accessible fentanyl.
